Reason #1 My emails are not exclusively about gardening. Really this is a plus... real people (including—I assume—you, buddy), are about way more than plants. There's dolphins, cats, family... so many things...
Reason #2 I sell things. This isn't a charity. While I make an effort to be entertaining, I also sell courses, my own and other peoples, from time to time. Also stuff... I share products and websites that I find insanely useful.
Reason #3 I'm not always a serious person. I'm real. Sometimes I joke around...
